JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Substitute Teacher
Status: Per Diem
Department: Various School Buildings
Reports To: Building Principal(s)
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Wage Determination: $90/day
Board of Education Approved Date: 08/13/2018
Summary: The job of the Substitute Teacher is to instruct students and aid in their learning in the absence of the regular teacher.
Qualifications/Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum requirement of 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university
- Complete a criminal history background check and fill out a fingerprint card
- Complete the application for a substitute teaching license and have it approved by the Kansas State Department of Education
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret lesson plans, procedures, and text books
- Ability to establish and maintain effective time management strategies
- Ability to present information to students and respond appropriately to questions
- Flexibility to work with students of all ages in diverse classroom settings
Supervisory Responsibilities: Assigned classroom students
Essential Functions:
- Provide classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans
- Create a classroom that conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment
- Maintain the school routine and classroom procedures
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated
- Maintain discipline and classroom control
- Present lessons and able to solve practical problems
General Responsibilities:
- Report to school office upon arrival
- Report all student injuries, illnesses, accident, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately
- Maintain classroom appearance
- Complies with and supports school and state regulations and policies
- Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s)
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Duty performance is typically in school settings: classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas
- Frequent sitting, walking, standing, stooping, and lifting
- Regularly required to speak and hear
- Reach with hands and arms
